|Our Vacation 2007 . . . continued:
So, 2007 brought a very busy and exciting September vacation for the entire Kona Kai staff. Bobbi and Veronika watched over the hotel. In between phone calls and e-mails, Bobbi spent a lot of her days fishing with Richard Burson (www.rufishingyet.com), a professional fishing guide and her significant other. As you see, she had some great catches, which she tossed back for your next fishing trip down here. Veronika and the other ladies on the staff got together at Kona Kai a few times to BBQ. Charlie proved to be the perfect grill master and, even on those rainy Sepember days, they all managed to have a good time. Veronika was also dogsitting Max, who managed to raid the grocery bags for an unscheduled dinner. Max also jumped in the pool one hot afternoon while Veronika and her husband, Rene, were enjoying some time alone. [Oh, don't feel that Bobbi or Veronika didn't get their fair share of vacation: earlier in the summer Veronika and Rene took a biking trip through some of the Southeast's best state parks and Bobbi is taking 2 weeks in October to go back to her home state of Maine.]
While most of us were frolicking, Sandy was recuperating from from voluntary but necessary foot surgery by resting us at home. Meanwhile, Charlie went north to Durand, Michigan, for her 50th high school reunion where 44 classmates showed up. Without giving away the ladies ages, it's safe to say everyone was collecting Social Security. Most important, though, is that Charlie says she was the only one still enjoying her job! Maria and her other half, also named Rene, headed to Key West for some Florida Keys foolishness and they then traveled further west and spent a week in Vegas. Maria and Rene were more than thrilled when they "won" $1,000,000.00; they even got the check to prove it, only to find out that 'what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.'
Joe, Ronnie and Tracey headed for Europe. Tracey started out in London, while Joe and Ronnie met up with Joe's parents on the Cote d'Azur. Tracey joined Joe and Ronnie in France. After a few days touring the coastal towns, they travelled deeper into the heart of Provence. The first night was spent at Le Baux de Provence, with hotelier friends Eric and Marika at Le Mas d' Aigret, a lovely small auberge that Eric and Marika bought last year. They are in the midst of renovating their property along the same fashion Joe and Ronnie did with Kona Kai some years ago. Our trip also included stops in Avignon, Chateauneuf de Pape, Gordes, Roussillon, Aix-en-Provence and countless other small villages, historic sights and great restaurants. Chateauneuf was a return visit for us and we took Tracey to one of our favorite caves - the Clos de l'Oratorie des Papes. Imagine our surprise when Tomas remembered us and pulled out our Kona Kai business card from his file! Tracey finally found out that Joe and Ronnie were not exaggerating about how good the food is in Provence! She also had some fun finally putting Joe in his place before she continued on to see, for her first time, the magical city of Paris. By the end of September, exhausted from all the sightseeing and eating, everyone agreed a few days R&R at Kona Kai was needed before re-opening to greet you. While all had a great time, it was clear Key Largo and Kona Kai is still the first choice for a great (and relaxing) vacation.
Thus, it was decided the only way to top September 2007, was to spend the next 11 months in paradise - a.k.a. - Kona Kai Resort and Gallery! We're here - hope to see you before September 2008!
